Which confirms my long held belief that most news organizations and their
so-called "journalists" collectively couldn't find their rear ends with both
hands and two copies of "Gray's Anatomy".

Subject: [kl] Cause for concern?

Under the heading "Too Much Sax May Kill You", the following Reuters item
was reported in Saturday's Sydney Morning Herald. It seemed prudent to
refrain from further comment.

Saxophone players are more likely to die for their art than other musicians,
British researchers say.
The claim, based on an analysis of 800 musicians and published in the
authoritative British Medical Journal, shows that among jazz musicians
playing the saxophone is a health hazard because less blood is able (to)
flow to the brain.
"Saxophonists, like other wind instrument players, all use circular
breathing - you fill your lungs and neck with air and you try to breathe in
through your mouth and out through your nose," said Dr Sanjay Kinra, one of
the researchers.
"That's pretty dangerous because you could argue that as they play,
especially during long solos, they raise the pressure in the neck region
which can slow the blood flow to the brain or cause blood clots to form
(thrombo-embolism)."
