Man, this makes completely clear the fact that a great deal of humor is
lost when included in e-mail messages. If the responder had been able to
hear the tone of your voice or see the expression on your face, he
undoubtedly wouldn't have had such a violent reaction to an innocuous
joke. In fact, I had the same response to the original question about
someone's "hon." I nearly wrote the same mildly sarcastic message as the
one above. But, even if the humorous nature of the message didn't come
through, I can't see any reason to send a personal attack to an entire
list.

Remember, when sending humorous replies, it is a good idea to include a
notice such as the following: "This message has been "smiley captioned"
for the humor impaired."
