In the 70's Russianoff would have students play on good Buffet
mouthpieces because he liked the sound, and because they tuned the R-13
very well, unlike some other popular mouthpieces of the time. They
weren't half bad. The ligature that came with them in those days (free!)
was a sort of version of the Vandoren Optima, which as we know is pretty
pricey.
