My problem is deafness. I don't know how many db down my hearing is over a
standard norm but I can hear sufficiently well in concert band where I play
clarinet and in a big band where I play tenor. The hearing aids I have had
including my present set are made to compress audio and therefore tonality
of my instruments is slightly different than that heard without the hearing aids.
Also, the aids are peaked at conversion frequencies, say between 200 and 600
Hertz. I'm looking for aids that can emulate a flat frequency response from
say, 100 to 15000 Hertz. I have a low opinion of the hearing aid industry as
I think they are rip off artists and muddle the science of audiology. But thats
only my opinion. I'm not stone deaf by any means but darn near it. Cause?
When I was a teenager I worked in foundries and machine shops where noise
levels were high and I mean high. Kids today, listening to high db level
amplified rock, are asking for ear trouble when they're older. Its a shame
because, given what we know today, they can do something about it now.
