The other day, I received a shipment of mouthpiece blanks from JJ Babbitt &
company. I'm trying a new blank that I had not tried before.

The blank is the 13B. Jim Green, of JJ Babbitt, assures me that this blank
has the same dimensions as the ones that they supplied to Frank Kaspar years
ago.

It is different that what I have been using. At first I did not like the
mouthpiece I made from the first blank. It seemed a little harsh, and maybe
overly "bright".

However, this was in a small room, my little workshop/studio. I took the
mouthpiece to rehearsal last night and my reaction was WOW.

In fact, the other clarinetists in the section commented IMMEDIATELY on the
precision of articulation and the fullness and projection of the tone. I had
a #4 reed, but it felt like butter.

The other thing that was VERY interesting was that the pitch was DEAD on,
most of the time at all levels of dynamic. This gave me a lot of "tonal range"

Also, my pianissimo projected. I could play very very soft, yet be heard
easily.

All in all, this is very interesting. I'll post more as I work with this
blank.

The only thing I'll do with this particular one is adjust the baffle to
darken the sound, just a tad.
