I am not a performing clarinettist, a mere very green beginner. However, I
have had a lot of stage experience in acting, public speaking, dance and,
way back, orchestral performance (high school 'cello).

My view is that if you ain't nervous you ain't doin' the job.

The nervousness is simply the adrenalin beginning to flow. I have generally
found the nerves settled once I got into the swing of the performance and
that the time to reach this point decreased as I became older and more
experienced. You need the adrenalin for the performance. Embrace it!

Anyway, as Dee said, most of the audience is there to enjoy the performance,
to have a good time. I know that when I attend any kind of performance I
hardly, if at all, notice the fluffed lines or the bum notes.

Break a leg, or should I say split a reed.
