It's hard to sit in a chair and play the clarinet with a full belly -
especially if your concert wear tends to be a bit snug. I eat a bit
lighter than usual about two hours before a concert. Brush your teeth
and get all the crunchies out of your mouth. Let the violinists eat
peanuts and popcorn!

Be sure and hydrate well with water, not soda or such. Nerves can make
your mouth dry . The way we breathe while playing is also drying. In a
our climate this may be more noticable. I am in Colorado and reeds dry
during 20 bar rests here.

I am so attuned to not eating before and during performance that even if
I'm playing the piano only, I won't even consider the food offered to me
before and during a concert!

Kristin - just home from a tiring rehearsal of all overtures
