I have been playing my O'Brien OB* lately for concert band and pit band
purposes. It's projection is not nearly so great as the Selmer C85-115 I
use for purposes where I must cut through more, like big band. It plays
evenly and in tune and has a very responsive altissimo, but I wish it had
just a little more guts at the bottom. The 5 facing, though, is pretty
open. My OB* is in the Selmer HS* range or so, and even I, who usually use
a Vandoren 2 1/2 or Mitchell Lurie 3, use a #4 reed on it!

Gee whiz department: the reeds I am currently using are 30-plus year old
Ciccone Symetricuts. I now wish I had not given so many of them away! I
only have 4 new ones left. They seem stiffer than the Mitchell Lurie 4's I
tried for comparison.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is too loud.
