A belated addition to the Y2K discussion of previous weeks:

The Winter 2000 issue of American Heritage Of Invention &
Technology has a very interesting article on why "the decisions
behind the Year 2000 Problem were entirely rational at the time
they were made."

For an amusing (but not at the time) perspective, there is
an article about the Y1936 Problem: "When a Los angeles utility
switched from 50- to 60-cycle power, it had to alter or replace
all the city's electric clocks." All 125,000 of them!

And for musical content, there is also an article about the
Avedis Zildjian Company, "The Oldest Business in America", which
has been making cymbals since 1623.
