Unfortunately it was a book that I had borrowed from the Decatur, IL public
library many years ago and I can't remember the title or author. I moved to
South Dakota over three years ago and so no longer have access to that
library to go check the title.

You could try just experimenting around though. Take an inexpensive
mouthpiece and tape it to the piece of piping so it won't come out. You
would probably want to use 1/2" pipe. Then just experiment with drilling
holes and see what pitches you get.
