I am going to comment on this. If a reed FEELS too hard, it probably is.
There is no virtue in using a reed that is too resistent. It tires the
embouchure, encourages biting, and creates a choked, rough sound. (Neither,
should a reed feel too soft, either.)

Remember, required reed strength is dependent on the mouthpiece facing. Not
how much pain you are willing to endure. If your lip hurts after 30 minutes,
you are doing something wrong.
