Exactly. When the reed hangs over the mouthpiece rail all sorts of problems
arise. It's funny you should mention the Gigliotti because I was
going to mention it in my post last night but it was late after a concert
and I was falling asleep.
The Gigliotti is a perfect example of the narrower window. I used a very
good
Gigliotti P34 for a year or so and I had to use Blackmasters on it. V12s
were
too wide and created an unholy resistance.

One finds Gigliottis with wider windows but in my limited trials of other
Gigliottis
I haven't found one with a window wide enough for a V12 yet.
