There is a great story on this audiophile humor on the subject of cylinders
and old 78's. A few years ago NIMBUS recordings, located in Wales, set up
a modified victrola in a great sounding hall, and played recordings
originally meant for the victrola. They placed a great microphone
(stereo?) in front of the horn and recorded away. The reviews were
interesting to read, and mostly positive,,,all things being considered.
Think of it as playing Mozart on an original clarinet and not a modern
clarinet. Keeps life interesting!
