No, no, no. Quite untrue. I play only cylinders, hand cut with the
clear knowledge that the soloists got up from the orchestra, ran over
to the cone protruding from the spring wound cylinder cutter and played
directly into it. That way I can be sure that the vibrations on the cylinder
exactly match the compression wave produced by the player. Occasionally
I am treated to a soft drip, drip of saliva on the inner surface of the cone
from a French horn. Those rare moments fill me with awe and appreciation
to have the luxury of listening to the interpretation of some great piece
as it was performed! 8-)
