I would be willing to bet that it would be traditional score order from top
to bottom. Take a look at the orchestra templates in Finale. This list is
from the full orchestra template.
piccolo, flute, oboe, english horn, Eb clarinet, clarinet, bass clarinet,
bassoon, contrabassoon, horns, trumpet, trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion,
violin, viola, cello, contrabass.
The templates vary a bit in instruments and order depending on the type of
group but it should be a reasonable approach for your data base.
