Actually, I have transferred my records to tapes, CDs and minidiscs. Lately
I'm putting the ones I listen to a lot on minidisc. However, I agree that a
vinyl LP can sound great. But I have found over the years that if I really
love a record and listen to it a lot, then it does wear out. Most of my
records are in pristine condition because I transfer them to other media.
Records can't be thrown in your pocket or briefcase and played easily in a
variety of venues. They need to be treated carefully, turned over etc. I
copy my records in order to preserve them not because the sound of the
copies is better. I think the person who started this was interested in
copying the records in order to preserve them.
