The only reason I wouldn't suggest that is because you're copying it to the "Beta" instead of "VHS" format. Whether or not any method is technologically superior to anothern is a moot point when the players are unavailable in a few years.
CD-R gives us about 20 years in normal storage conditions to find a better medium for archival purposes. After 20 years it's expected that "bit rot" will start setting in.
