It's difficult to make a final judgment based upon just one box of Rigotti
Gold reeds. But, in my opinion, they seem to be a hybrid between Mitchell
Lurie reeds (which I also find easy to play on but which go soft on me fast)
and regular Vandorens (which produce such a nice tone).

While this paragraph may seem out of sync, please bear with me. I have been
using a Gregory Smith rosewood mouthpiece since late summer. As many of you
know, rosewood has a colored resin that leaches from the wood. The
interesting thing I've noticed about the Rigotti Gold reeds is that they pick
up the color of the resin so EVENLY along the rails of the mouthpiece. While
I am not a reed expert, this observation tells me that the reeds are probably
balanced well and not so prone to warping. They really do lie nice and flat
against the mouthpiece. (Of course, lots of credit is due Greg Smith for
fashioning this wonderful mouthpiece in the first place.)

I purchased my Rigotti Gold reeds from the WW&BW. If I recall, they were on
back order for some time before they were shipped. I really think the wait
was worth it. My only "mistake" was not ordering the harder version of the #3
reeds. But I had been using #3 Vandoren regulars previously so I didn't know
where to begin with the Rigotti Golds. My next order will be for the strong
#3s.

Hope this helps!

Cindy
