Why not just set the clock on your computer back a few years, and then
wait to see what happens. After all, experience to date shows that a
computer isn't going to last forever. Without much actual technical
experience to back it up, I would think that the clock re-setting
technique should be a good band-aid solution until such time as you need a
new computer.

Also, I should think that backing things up prior to December 31 would be
a good idea, too. But, then, that's a good plan for anytime, even though
I don't do it as often as I should.
