My interest in copyrights is more than academic, of course - I'd like to
make some of the repertoire that is in the public domain available as high
resolution .pdf files (from Finale) for free and printed on good paper in
manuscript size for a reasonable cost.

Case in point - the Saint-Saens Sonata, op. 167, as music is not in
copyright. However, the only edition I could find (and I bought) is the
nicely printed Durand Edition for $23.95. Looking at my edition, it says
"Copyright 1921". In the upper corner, it says "Ouvrage Protege/Photocopie
Interdite/Meme partielle/(Loi du 11 Mars 1957)/Constituersit
contrefacon/(Code Penal, Art. 425)" (the print is small and my eyes may have
deceived me on some of the letter).

As far as I can tell, this is no longer in copyright. Am I wrong?

Mark C.
