The best transcription I have ever heard was done by Robert Rumbelow while
he was a doctoral student of Donald Hunsberger at the Eastman School of
Music. The clarinet concerto was done for the 1994 (?) ESM wind Ensemble
tour of Japan with Ken Grant as soloist. This transcription was played
several times while I was there and it never got old. The beauty and charm
of this concerto comes through even through there are no strings. Rob later
did a transcription for the same ensemble of the oboe concerto, Haydn
Trumpet, and the Vivaldi 2 trumpet concert for other faculty members. It is
a small ensemble that is basically double winds plus bass clar, contra
bassoon, and a couple extra instruments.

Rob is now faculty at Columbus State University in Georgia. According to
his bio on their website, he is published by Warner Music (part of the
Hunsberger Catalog) and Ludwig Music Publishers. His e-mail (once again
from their website) is: rumbelow_robert@-----.

The nice thing about this orchestration is that it really fits the style of
the music. It does NOT sound like a "Band" rather, chamber music for a
small wind ensemble.
