To me this is the worst note on the instrument. As someone who plays a
lot of bass clarinet you can probably tell me the reason. The register
key is in the wrong place. It should be lower and larger for this note.
Try playing a long B and instead of the register key use your left thumb
to press the third right hand trill key (from the bottom).

Wow - that post about the Moennig was like, way informative. Perhaps one
might be able to shed some light on a similar problem I have, except with
the long B. (My C# is perfectly fine, though.)

The B is a bit sharp (naturally, as you might expect) in relation with the
slightly flat low E (yay acoustical compromises). However, the sound is
indeed a bit 'furry', not at all like the rest of the clarion register at
all. I should also note that the tone quality of the low is superb, and
not at all inconsistent with the remainder of the low chalumeau, as the B
is with the clarion. The B almost sounds like the throat Bb without
shading (quality wise, not pitch wise). To be honest...my trill fingering
for B is actually better sounding. Any insight from you smart people as
to why this is?

(The pad is quite fine, the tone hole is clear, and I've tried turning the
bell...but playing a GL, grain inconsistency between the bell and lower
joint aren't really a problem...the B has been like this for the most part
since I purchased the instrument.)
