I was really pleased to hear of this new "Belf" book. For those of you not
hip to some of the great old time klezmer clarinetists, Belf is one of the
last of the "old world" musicians to have made it on to disk. There is
defiantly a difference in that style of playing than from the styles of
Tarras and Brandwein. I'm convinced that the playing of Tarras and Brandwein
was altered by contact with the American culture and music. It's nice to hear
a style of playing that I believe wasn't. I for one am going to get a copy of
this book. But I am sitting here hoping that Mr. Galper is going to make
copies of the recordings available. If he hasn't, I'll drive a victrola and a
DAT to Toronto and tape them myself. Hint Hint!!!!

Tom Puwalski (The Artist formerly known as Sarge)

PS. I am in no way Dissing Tarras ans Brandwien!!!!!!!!
