First of all, a great big Klarinet-style "welcome" to you
Beth, from all of us (dare I be so presumptuous). I'm always
particularly inspired when a younger player decides to honor
our list by becoming part of our virtual community.

Regarding your fuzzy C#, Dee Hays had the right idea. I assume
you've already made an up-close visual inspection of the area
around that tone hole, including checking the condition of the
pad itself. If it's a bladder pad, there's always the small
possibility that it has disintegrated to the point where a
piece of the skin is torn away from the pad and is dangling.
If this is the case, or if there's build-up inside the tone-
hole, your best bet is to have a competent technician take
a look and ensure that the tone hole is clear, and that the
pad is in good shape. Then it may be a matter of regulating
the height of the pad relative to the tone hole. (S)he'll
know what to do.

Good luck, and enjoy your first high school marching band ex-
perience. May your exuberance endure for the next four years.
