from the Ohio River Valley This flashy rag moves ceaselessly from =

RUSSIAN RAG (George L. Cobb, arr. Clesen Havill Smith)
In ragtime era, some of the more accomplished ragtime pianists found =
that it was popular to "rag" the classics - that is, to take well-known =
classical compositions or melodies and play them in improvised ragtime =
rhythm and style. By the 'teens, Tin Pan Alley composers were writing =
and publishing pieces in the sam manner, different only in that they =
were printed rather than improvised. This one, by George L. Cobb, is =
based on the well-known "Prelude in C-Sharp Minor: by Rachmaninoff. =20

0005.
DILL PICKLES, Rag (Charles L. Johnson, arr. Jim O'Briant)
One of the big hits of 1906 and the best-known rag by Kansas City =

high C.

0004.
HAUNTING RAG (Julius Lenzberg, arr. Jim O'Briant)
A solid arrangement of a little-known rag by a prolific ragtime =
composer. Trumpets I & II trade melodic phrases in the first two =
strains, and the Horn takes the melody through much of the trio. The =
Trio also keeps the tuba busy on beats and after beats ("oom" and =
"pah"). There are eight measures of high writing for Trumpet I, =
including several high C's and one high D.

Key: F, Bb
Performance Time: 2:50

0002.
JINGLE BELLS (Trad., arr. Jim O'Briant)
A lively, rollicking arrangement with sixteenth notes in all parts. In =
one passage, Trumpet I plays "Carol of the Bells" as a descant, with the =
feel of 3/8 against 2/4. Ranges are reasonable for all instruments. No =
holiday concert is complete without "Jingle Bells," and this arrangement =
is a winner.
Meter: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4
Key: Bb
Performance Time: 1:10
Price: $10.00

0010.
LO, HOW A ROSE E'ER BLOOMING (Michael Praetorius, arr. Jim O'Briant)
A perfect holiday season selection presenting three statements of this =
400-year-old staple of the Christmas repertoire. The first and third =
are straightforward chorales; the second is contrapuntal with a moving =
climax. Rhythms are straightforward, and ranges within the reach of =
average players. The Horn part reaches F# (top line) and the Trombone =
part goes to G above the Bass staff.

0007.

0020.
SMILES AND CHUCKLES (F. Henri Klickmann, arr. Clesen Havill Smith)
F. Henri Klickmann's novelty rag from 1917 is a delightfully fun piece =
to play or to hear. Lots of chromatic scales simulate "laughter." There =
are a few trombone glissandi in the "B" strain, so we recommend using =
trombone rather than euphonium in this number (but we provide the =
Euphonium T.C. part as usual).
Meter: 2/4
Key: F,Bb
Performance Time: 2:45
Price: $10.00

0014.
SONGS FROM THE EMERALD ISLE (arr. Jim O'Briant)
A very stylish and listenable three-movement suite. (When the =
arranger's quintet first read through this arrangement, they thought it =
was by Holst or Vaughn Williams.) It opens with the heroic march, =
"Remember the Glories of Brien the Brave," followed by the yearning love =
ballad "Come O'er the Sea" and a finale built on two Irish jigs, "Single =
Jig" and "Garryowen."
Meter: 4/4, 6/8
Key: D minor, D Major
Performance Time: 5:30
Price: $20.00

0012.
TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC (John W. Bratton, arr. Jim O'Briant)
Here is the classic children's song (dating from 1907), in a very =
playable arrangement with lots of interest in all five parts.
Meter: 6/8
Key: G minor, Eb Major
Performance Time: 3:00
Price: $20.00

0006.
THAT DEMON RAG (Russell Smith, arr. Jim O'Briant)
Despite its demonic title, this is a gentle and easy-going rag full of =
interesting harmonies, written by Russell Smith, an early Black composer =
from Indianapolis. Ranges are reasonable for all instruments; Trumpet =
I has several high A's and two high C's.
Meter: 2/4

0003.

by Herbert's "Toyland" and "March of the Toys," with interesting and =
clever transitions. Ideal for the holiday season, or for any time of =
year. Ranges are all reasonable; Horn has one E (fourth space) and Tuba =
has one G (fourth space).

0008.
TR@-----. Jim O'Briant)
"Tr=E4umerei," the seventh movement of Schumann's "Kinderscenen," will =
provide a quite and contemplative change of pace within a concert or =
serve as an unusual but memorable encore. The two Trumpets share =
melodic duties almost equally, with ranges to Ab above the staff. The =
arranger recommends that the traditional trombone part be played on =
euphonium.
Meter: C
Key: Db
Performance Time: 2:10
Price: $10.00

0019.
TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS (Traditional, arr. Clesen Havill Smith)
This Christmas classic has been arranged by Clesen Smith in a unique =
variety of styles and keys. The melody bounces from voice to voice, and =
each verse leads intriguingly into the next. The arrangement is =
through-composed, eliminating confusing repeats, D.S.'s and other visual =
complexities and allowing each of the 12 "days" to be different from =
those that have gone before. Ranges and difficulty level are suitable =
for advanced high school musicians or above.
Meter: 4/4, 3/4
Key: F, Db, Ab, Eb, Gb, G
Performance Time: 4:14
Price: $15.00
