I found striking tonal differences between my Vandoren B45 and my B45 dot. =
That's not surprising (to me). The B45 was terribly bright and thin-soundin=
g, the B45 dot (which I still have and play) is a lovely mouthpiece with a =
number of desirable qualitites. I attribute this entirely to inconsistency =
rather than design. I too explored dimensions of these two chambers =
(though I am an editor rather than a machinist) and found no differences. =
I find the best way to "judge" the internal dimensions of a mouthpiece or =
a barrel and its suitability to the piece you're going to mate it with (in =
the absence of equipment sold by Eric Brand) is to view it "plugged into" =
what you will play it with viewed with a strong single light source. So, =
you can judge a mouthpiece chamber by how it butts a barrel, and a barrel =
by how it butts the upper joint.
