Klarinet-types,

I am on the hunt for a new mouthpiece. I have been using a B45 with #3
V-12's on my R-13. It sounds pretty good, but the mouthpiece is getting
a bit chewed up, and it is time to see what else is out there. I plan
on trying about 9 or 10 different manufactures, hoping to find that
mythical "perfect orchestral tone". What I would appreciate input on
is: What type of facing length do most pro symphony players use? I
would like to narrow some of the variables as I go out and try
mouthpieces. Most makers have a facing similar to the B45 length, so my
thought is to try many different manufacturers with facings in the 44-46
range.

I appreciate the issues the list has had with the "perfect mouthpiece"
subject, and I appreciate the many non-mouthpiece-related variables
associated with tone, but one has to start somewhere. So, any
suggestions would be appreciated. I am not looking to play jazz or
anything but traditional classical music. I am willing to spend up to
about $150 for a pro (semi-pro?) level mouthpiece.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dave S.
