Ha. Amen to that. I experimented one day and tried playing a clarinet
arrangement of Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess using the 5JB/#2 reed
setup on the CT. Let's say it was a "different" experience. In the
hands of a jazz master working with a skilled backup combo, there might
be a way to turn it to good effect; in my hands it was some guy making
blatting noises that scared the cat (just when I was getting her
trained, too). Something as delicate as the Ravel Pavane works much
better with a somewhat less open MP, shall we say?....

Oh...the other day I inadventently told a fib about not owning a
mouthpiece by Hite, Ridenour, etc. I hadn't used it in awhile, but I do
in fact own a Hite Premiere that I located last night and attached to
the horn. Plastic it may be; inexpensive it was; cheap-sounding it is
not. It allows a really sweet, vibrant tone and great ease of
production even with a harder reed. I suspect it is an excellent
all-purpose mouthpiece for anyone. More experiments when I get home....
