I lived in Atlanta from 1978 to 1986. We went through
the same thing in, I believe, the early 80's. I had
season tickets to the Ballet, and the wonderful
dancers were dancing to recorded music, and it just
didn't "feel" right. Finally, they got things settled
and we had a real partnership between dancers and
musicians again. If I remember correctly, the
ballet's attendance and subscriptions started falling
off pretty badly, encouraging management to ditch the
idea of karaoke ballet. Guess the new management has
to reinvent the wheel. Unfortunately at the expense
of the musicians, dancers, and patrons.
