Subj: [kl] Update on Student who played badly out of tune.....
Date: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 12:03:16 -0500

Hi,

Just wanted to update.

The student did get harder reeds which only helped slightly. I did bring a
couple of barrels and mouthpieces with me to her lesson for her to try.

We mixed the various combinations; her mouthpiece, different barrel; her
barrel, different mouthpiece; different barrels with different mouthpieces.

The results were astounding. The combination that really blew both her
mother and I away were: The click tuning barrel (International) with a
Selmer HS* mouthpiece.

Her ability to get a full, controlled sound and clarity and character of tone
was phenomonal! Best of all. a major difference in her tuning!

The mother came in the room with her mouth hanging open down to the floor.
The difference in the sound is amazing. Best of all, we were able to play a
duet together for the first time reasonably in tune.

I still feel like she could go to a #3 reed, but I'll let her get comfortable
with this set-up first.

This petite young student is going to blow the older kids away! (No pun
intended).

Thanks to any that gave input on this matter.

Georgette
