Neil Leupold stated that:
"Business follows the demand. If there's no demand for a high quality
widget, there's no incentive to produce one, much less base an entire
business strategy on it."

Neil,

I've been following this thread with great interest, and apart from a minor
quibble as to the primacy of profit-maximisation as a business goal, I had
generally concurred with your views.

Nevertheless, I had been speculating whether this discussion might have
suffered mildly by a tendency to blur the boundary between the different
practices of large and small business, when the above statement (quoted)
caught my eye, and reinforced my concern.

The statement appears to overlook the entreprenurial element of the business
spectrum. I would suggest that the entreprenur does not so much follow
demand as creates demand, perceiving the potential then engaging in
market-making activity, often, as you said, basing "an entire business
strategy on it."

Michael
