Jim Youngman writes: In a second hand box I saw various mouthpieces, without
corking, in a local music store for $50 (+- $35 US). Would this be about
right?

Jim, unless this collection is an unusual find, chances are the whole box
isn't worth $50 (35 US). Maybe the whole box WAS going for $50, but
nontheless, my experience is you seldom make a killing in a music store's
collection of old MPs. Usually 99% of this stuff is a motley collection
of low grade mps provided on el cheapo instruments. It is fun to look
through these though, especially if ligatures are thrown in the box as well.
Dealers especially vulnerable to this type of ragamuffin shopping are those
who have a whopping inventory of electric guitars thus indicating an abysmal
void in the recognition of civilised music. (but not always)

I urge you to become familiar with the names of popular mouthpiece makers
as you may encounter them on sneezy or its classifieds. Learn the criteria
that make good mps. Seek out these sources either locally or online. And
above all make an arrangement to trial play them. You will be suprised how
good your Bundy will sound.
