Subj: [kl] Detailed specifications of Buffet Clarinets

Could someone point me in the direction of a web page that gives greater
detail regarding the specifications and design of the various models of
Buffet Clarinets than provided at the following site?

http://www.boosey.com/mi/e13.html

My daughter has a friend (sophomore) who is trying to obtain a better
instrument, since her clarinet teacher is not pleased with her E-11 that she
has been playing. Our schools push R-13s as the instrument of choice and
she has been told that she would be wasting her money by going from an E-11
to an E-13. The indication was that she wasn't getting anything more with
the E-13 than with her E-11 than the difference in keys. I don't know if
that was in reference to silver plated vs. nickel plated, or if there are
other features of the keys that are being referred to.

I realize that she needs to try and compare a number of instruments. But my
impression is that the "right" E-13 "can" be quite satisfactory for someone
who doesn't want to spend the extra money on an R-13. However, without more
detailed information regarding the design of the various instruments, I
don't believe that our local people will ever believe that and she would
never be satisfied with that choice with opposition from the band directors.

Thanks!

Cathy B
