Forgive me for chipping in. I am an enthusiastic Berwald Septet fan too,
but . . .
When the Septet first appeared in a version that has been partly lost
the reviewer in the AMZ (1817) expressed the hope that the talented Berwald
would settle down and study conventional harmony and composition and
divest himself of eccentric modulations. We can sample the
original version in so far as the earlier Finale has been included in the
1985 Barenreiter edition (BA 8514) of the (1828) parts.
