In all my years of flea marketing, I've *never* seen a metal clarinet barrel
for sale separately. I do see a lot of metal clarinets for sale missing this
essential part. Once when I saw an intact metal clarinet, I had a strange
conversation with the dealer, who reached into the case for the barrel and
said, "I don't know how that stray socket got in there." Evidently he
thought the neck was a socket for a socket wrench. He intended to take it
out of the clarinet case, slap a price on this "socket" and sell it with
tools! He was very surprised when I told him it was an important part of the
clarinet and showed him the matching engraving. Wonder how many other metal
clarinet barrels got lost this way?
