Most metal clarinets DO require a very short "barrel" to connect the
mouthpiece to the body of the clarinet. Only a very few metal clarinets
were made that did not need such a connector. Those instruments that had a
barrel allowed tuning by pulling both mouthpiece and barrel if needed.
Those without only allowed pulling the mouthpiece.

As to where you can get these barrels, it is a matter of luck. They are no
longer made. Keep looking for another metal clarinet of the same brand and
model that has this barrel. It wouldn't matter if the instrument itself was
in bad shape since all you need is the barrel. Another choice would be to
have some one make you one but that is probably expensive.

Or just pitch this one and go looking for some other metal clarinet that has
its barrel (or is the design that doesn't need one).
