Along with the instruments you mentioned, take a hard look at the Buffet
Plastic instrument (B-12 I believe is the number). I have several of my
students on them and I couldn't be more impressed. The quality is quite
high. Both workmanship and intonation are good. The key work is also has
the same feel as the R-13, thus making a transition to better instruments
much easier.

What I find amazing about this instrument is that it costs about the same as
Yamahas and Bundys but is an instrument that is much better quality. If I
had to buy a cheap clarinet to beat up in outdoor performances, this would
be my choice (even for professional work).
