Indeed, all the candidates
played the Mozart really quite badly, and after the first round, we were
worried that there would be *no-one* good enough for the job.

Just for my own curiosity, what stood out about the poor performances of the Mozart?
Was it sloppy fingering, poor articulation, lack of dynamics, over exaggerated dynamics, incorrect tempos, or
all of the above?

only appeared when we got him to play the Miraculous Mandarin, and
things like that, and when we heard how he took directions when we asked
him to play things differently.

I hope the young players out there have read this and take note. Performance in any group is more
than hitting the right notes as fast as you can.
