I agree that silk seems to be less absorbent than cotton,
and I'll go out on a limb by saying that it is also more
abrasive. I sometimes wonder if people hear the word
"silk" and then trick themselves into thinking it is
automatically smoother and gentler. Perhaps the extra
money spent on the material throws the human brain into
denial or something, because I could swear that a silk
swab feels almost like mild sandpaper compared to a
broken-in cottom swab. Good "questin."
