Walter,

what is frustrating is that i have been using all these excellent
suggestions for many years,and have gotten relief in most situations.
only to have the whole tone/pitch get worse with a new conductor in my
main playing group.
and when the oboe gives a real 440, the orch tunes sharp (a bit) then
immediately plays sharper yet in the music. all tuning adjustments
during rehearsal are "bring that up a tiny bit".
Oh well, the oboist and i have become buddies in trying to deal with the
situation.

AND i very much enjoy the college band where i have influence and
cooperation.
It is also amusing to avoid the flatness trend in choir.
