MOZART AND AUDITIONS

I think that the choice of the Mozart for a clarinet audition is a good
one.
It tells you right away whether the person is musical, flexible.

Of course, playing the Mozart well does not make one a great orchestral
player.

For that there is an awesome list of excerpts.

After one passes the excerpt list, some orchestras have the first
clarinet and the auditinee play two clarinet passages to determine
blend and other aspects of playing in the section.

If the candidate manages to pass all that, the orchestra might give him
a week of rehearsal with the orchestra.

That should certainly tell them something about the candidate's
suitability for the job.

Mozart is a good starter. No one is hired just on the basis of Mozart.
