Here's the answer to the label question from Guy Legere:

The labels with the writing on them were a stop gap measure we had to take
to get reeds out while we wrestled with our label supplier (duh!). Anyway,
the reeds now come with a printed serial number (unique) and an additional
sticker with the strength, added after testing. The strength label can now
be read at 50 paces.
