Subj: [kl] NEW Hawkins mouthpiece for sale
Date: Sat, 6 Nov 1999 02:29:30 -0500

In August I purchased a Richard Hawkins mouthpiece from International Music
Suppliers. I tried about 20 mouthpieces, including 7 or 8 Hawkins, a couple
of Pynes, and I believe some Bays and Hites.

I bought it to be my principal mouthpiece.

It tunes to A@-----.
It produces a fine tone and articulates very well. It's made from a Zinner
angled wall blank, which IMS also carries. The tip and rails are even and
well formed. The tip opening is .96 on my gauge, which gives the mouthpiece a
fairly close tip. It plays best with a Vandoren V12 number 4. The facing
measures: 30, 19, 8, 3. and is very symmetrical. These measurements are very
close to an excellent Gregory Smith mouthpiece which I am currently
examining.

All in all a very fine mouthpiece for Symphony and Chamber work.

So why am I selling?

Well, truthfully, I made a mouthpiece last week for myself (which for me) is
just as good as the Hawkins, and I don't need it.

(I also feel hypocritical, as a mouthpiece technician, to expect people to
play on my mouthpieces, while I play on someone else's.)

AND my wife says..."Get some of these mouthpieces out of here....you don't
need 24 mouthpieces!!!!!!"

I paid $102 at IMS (including tax). $85 or best offer gets it. Thought I'd
offer it here before I put it on ebay......
