more about cats and music.
Masko, a 15 pound tabby who looked like a Maine Coon Cat. the vet liked
him, he didn't freak out in the office and tolerated handling and minor
indignities. but he was very sensitive to sound--terrified of
thunderstorms. and a music critic.
piano was ok, but he liked to stretch out on it while i tried to play,
just left the room with when i began to play clarinet. i was working on
flute for a while, he really didn't like that, he took off the instant he
saw me pick up the case. (many people did the same).

Kioko, the cat i have now, an 8 pound female Siamese loves all musical
instruments. she thinks that the high register of clarinet, viola, or
voice is a call for her attention. when in a house mood, curls on the
table or chair next to me and purrs so that i will remember to stroke her
between segments. she has times when she plays piano every day then goes
for weeks without any practicing.

I pet sit for several friends, and so all their pets get to experience
live music. one family is all musicians, so the cats and dogs are very
used to practicing and lessons--some enjoy while others ignore. one
Siamese and one dog sometimes wrap themselves around the music stand
during lessons. all the cats like open or closed string instrument cases
for naps.
