Yes, but it wasn't UNTIL they lowered the pitch back down to 440, wresting
control back from the violins! Since woodwinds had to be specially made to
match that pitch (vs. violins who just cranked the tuning pegs a bit), when
the 440 standard was instituted, it basically obsoleted most woodwinds.
The new ones were marked Low Pitch or LP to differentiate. High pitch
horns are hard to find these days, since they were mostly only good for
kindling! But beware the ongoing pitch creep to 442 and beyond!
