Dave--

Neck straps are relatively cheap; your hands are priceless. Many "famous"
and even not-so-famous people have used neck straps from time to time in
times of need. A few well-noted clarinet players use them all the time--I
believe Ricardo Morales uses one in the pit at the Met. (If this means he's
no good, I'd like to be so bad!)

Give it a shot. At worst, you may improve your hand position.
