I am looking for references on musical acoustics, particularly the acoustics
of the clarinet. I have started playing regularly again after a lapse of 10
years; one of my friends at work has a physics background, and has become
interested in the physics of musical instruments. We spent one session
taking data and doing a spectral analysis of various notes. The most
interesting was the analysis of "plain" and resonance fingerings for the
throat B flat. The plain fingering produced a tone that had nearly all the
power in the fundamental. The resonance fingering got a noticeable third
harmonic--not as strong as some other notes, but much stronger than the
plain fingering. All this was quite interesting, and we are interested in
looking into it in more detail.

For references, the more technical the better---this guy is in love with
wave equations, differential equations and boundary value problems. Any help
would be appreciated...
