Claudia Zornow:

Not only does the new thumbrest come with 3 holes but one must anti-
cipate drilling a third hole in the R13 second joint to accommodate it.
This is actually a small job but unless one has the proper tools and
the correct size drill, it could be botched. I'm sure an instrument
repair person has a whole drawer full of proper size screws and could
install it while you wait.

Incidental to this, the thumbrest on the R13 when compared to say,
LeBlanc, is about a centimeter lower down the joint. In my case, it
puts the thumb in a position directly under the 2nd and 3rd fingers RH
which ultimtely causes discomfort and also tends to pivot the right
hand when the little finger RH is using B or C sharp keys. This subtle
pivoting action, again for me, moves the lst and 2nd RH fingers out of
position momentarily. I took the thumbrest off and turned it around thus moving my thumb about a centimeter up toward the middle joint and
using a slip on rubber cushion got some relief but it is still annoying.
Of all the clarinets I've ever played, the thumbrest has never been a
problem except on my R13. I'll probably give in and get a Kooiman.
