Subj: [kl] clarinet thumb support and hand problems
Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 03:04:42 -0500

I do not have hand problems but I notice that you have had some problems
with the fourth and fifth fingers of your right hand. I play a Buffet
r-13 prestige and the thumb rest also dug uncomfortably into my thumb.
Moreover, like most clarinet players, I was supporting the weight of the
clarinet near the end of my thumb. I was advised by two people
on the list to try the Kooiman thumb support. I find it incredible. The
clarinet is supported at a point on my thumb closer to the hand where
there is more support. The fourth and fifth fingers are more relaxed
and seem to function more independently.

I recommend it highly. It is available from suppliers on the net. (No
financial interest.)
