ive played clarinet for over 5 years now and just
recently started playing tenor last march, and i like
it. it has a lovely sound, it has the same fingerings
(minus the really low notes and C's) as the upper
register on the clarinet, and it's in the same key. i
personally prefer anything over altos and sopranos, so
thats why i chose it. but i agree with what someone
said that all the sax fingerings and embrouchures are
pretty much the same, so it's just basically a
personal and finicial issue as to which to choose. and
tenors have cool parts in jazz band (i know from
experience). and besides, there are way to many alto
players in this worls anyway; please dont add another.

Hello,
My name is Chris and I was wondering
if there were any doublers out
there
that could give some advice. I want
to get into jazz, so I'll be in
the
market for a sax. I keep getting
conflicting advice as far as if I
should
get a soprano, alto or tenor. I'm
only buying one sax, since it is my
second instrument. The advice I've
gotten so far that made the most
sense
to me was to get a tenor, since it
plays in the same key as my clarinet
and
is just as common in the jazz band as
alto, and I could play out of the

same jazz books and jazz charts
without transposing on clarinet and
sax.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this
subject?

Thanks,
Chris
